Should You Drop Out Of School?
No. Don’t drop out of school. Why? Because the real world and various other factors.
The Real World
You haven’t seen the real world yet. It is much different than any of us ever could have imagined. There are bills, you have to cook and clean for yourself, etc. You don’t want to be learning life right out of the gate with a startup around your neck. Your startup will suffer or your life will. Get a job with your degree so you have something to fall back on. Nobody is going to financially back a drop out no matter how good their idea was. You may be thinking you can pull a Mark Zuckerburg, but you most likely can’t. Why? Because he was an exception to the rule. There are always exceptions to the rule.
A good example of this is by looking at how many people that parachute have fell all the way onto the ground and bounced and survived. Some survive, but not many at all. Should you expect to be the exception to the rules of life? That isn’t going to happen often. You don’t want to assume you are going to be that lucky one. Statistics show it is a bad idea. You have time to make your startup.
No Job Experience
Sure you may have had a pizza delivery job but working in the corporate world is much different. You learn how management structures work, what they have to deal with, the health insurance situation, how to work with people in the corporate world, etc. There are just so many factors to consider. It is just important to actually get in there and learn what you can so that when you start your own business you know what kinds of things you will be dealing with when interacting with these companies. You will have a much better idea of how it works.
Think of it as if you were a guy trying to learn how women work and what they want and such. If you were able to infiltrate their group and be one of the girls like on one of those goofy movies you would see how all of the intricacies work and what they feel and think and such. When observing from the outside we see a much different picture than when we are actually in the fray. Being a fly on the wall is very helpful to learn how things work so that when you have to interact later on, you will know what to do.
You will need funds to get your business off the ground even if it is a small business. If it is a small website you still have to worry about a hosting platform and possibly various plugins and services to integrate into your product. You will need the money from your job. Don’t go all homeless and expect to get a startup off the ground. You can’t do the starving artist routine and expect to succeed.
